Calico for Memorial Day Weekend

We decided a few weeks ago that we would spend Memorial Day weekend camping up at Calico Ghost Town. That is kind of our default camping site when we want to go someplace close that is also fun for the kids!

On this trip Desirae asked if her friend Trinity could camp with us so we had an extra for this trip! All of the girls ran and climbed all over the place and it was really cool to see them playing so hard. The only bad thing about the trip was the severe weather warning of high winds for almost the entire time we were there. That didn’t stop the girls from constantly climbing the different “mountains” around the camp ground.

The Ghost Town was pretty cool too. They seemed to have more stores open since the last time we were there. The only thing missing was the re-enactments but Denise asked and found out it was an employee problem and they just decided to stop them. Besides I imagine with “shows” going on throughout the place it distracts people from BUYING stuff!

We did have a lot of fun though and ended up doing the “gold panning”, Maggie’s Mine, the train (Calico Express) and the House of Mysteries. Well, the girls did the house of mysteries - Devin and I passed on that. The last time I “tried” to do it I had to walk out.

For the last night the wind FINALLY let up and we were able to make a camp fire and cook burgers (I tried brats but ruined all of them) on it. Afterward we just hung out by the fire and just relaxed and had a good time.

All in all it was a great trip and I’m glad that we went. It was nice to get back out on the road and just relax as a family again.
